Fresh from our first victory, and back at Bridge House School after an evening being hosted by the families of Bridge House, the boys were ready for the next stage of the trip and moving on to our next location.
We boarded the bus and after a welcome chance to grab some water for the day, we headed off to see the local animals at the Giraffe House. An informative talk from our host followed and we got to see, and touch, a wide range of animals,. The highlight being the chance to hold a python for a while, not for the faint of heart.
After the Giraffe House, we headed off to Paarl for our next fixture and the chance to explore to acclimatise to the heat now that we had moved away from the coast.
Our next game proved to be in tough conditions, and with the slightly longer format we knew that it would be tough. Having lost the toss we fielded first and in difficult conditions managed to keep the Paarl score to 151 for 7 from their 25 overs, all the boys performed well in the field, and we truly felt that it was a team performance.
We then needed to bat in slightly cooler conditions, and after a slow start the batsmen really began to show their mettle, with Henry Parton and William Deacon leading the charge. Sadly, we fell slightly short at 144 for 6, but the sound of sixes from the bat of William Deacon will live long in the memory.
After the game we moved on to the opulent surroundings of Pontac Manor, and the team meal in the Cattle Baron was certainly well received, and one of the highlights of the tour.
